Perhaps the most exciting new product for the new Macintosh with PowerPC platform is Insignia Solutions’ SoftWindows. SoftWindows literally doubles the value of your computer by adding full MS-DOS® and Windows™ compatibility. You’ll be able to load and run virtually any of the tens of thousands of PC applications and run them at speeds similar to a 486-class PC.
Run your company’s Windows programs alongside your favorite Mac software.
Now you can run DOS, Windows and Macintosh software on the computer of your choice — Macintosh with PowerPC. You’ll have a real Windows PC. SoftWindows includes the same Microsoft Windows/MS-DOS environment you'd receive if you bought a PC.
Powered by Macintosh.
Compared to running PC software on a Macintosh Quadra 950, the Power Macintosh 6100/66 is more than twice as fast, and the 8100/80 is nearly four times as fast. On a Quadra 950, PC software runs just fast enough to use when you have to. On the Power Macintosh family, DOS and Windows programs run fast enough to use conveniently as much as you need them.
The easiest PC ever.
And SoftWindows is the easiest PC you’ve ever seen: Printing, networking, mouse support, even PC CD-ROM access are all pre-installed for you and ready to use immediately. For the very first time, one computer is the right choice for running both Macintosh and PC software. Both Mac and PC environments are integrated smoothly:
• Run Windows in a window on your Mac’s screen — and you set the size
• Copy and paste between PC and Mac applications — just click in a window to switch
• Use PC and Mac networks at the same time with just one Mac network connection
• Access files on your Mac hard disk as well as file servers and CDs
• Use PC communication programs with a Mac modem
• Print from both PC and Mac applications to Mac printers
• Use the Macintosh mouse, keyboard, disk drives and memory for PC software, too
